Port of Hai Phong and RMIT Vietnam Sign MOU to Advance Training and High-Quality Workforce Development

On 6 April, at its headquarters (No. 8A Tran Phu Street, Ngo Quyen Ward, Hai Phong City), Port of Hai Phong and RMIT University Vietnam held a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony to promote collaboration in training, workforce development, and stronger linkages between industry and academia.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh - General Director of Port of Hai Phong, and Dr. Hossein Davari, - Director of School of English and University Pathways at RMIT Vietnam, along with representatives from both organisations.

The MOU establishes a long-term partnership framework in education, training, and industry engagement. Under the agreement, the two parties will jointly research, design, and deliver both short- and long-term English training programmes tailored to practical business needs, through RMIT’s School of English and University Pathways.

Beyond training, the partnership also opens up a wide range of collaborative opportunities to strengthen connections between students and industry. Potential initiatives include internship programmes, work-integrated learning projects, industry talks, site visits, and Port of Hai Phong’s participation in career orientation activities for RMIT students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Hossein Davari emphasised that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to skills development and closer industry–education connections. He noted that the MOU not only represents a common vision but also lays a strong foundation for a practical and sustainable long-term collaboration. “Through English training and customised programmes, we aim to enhance the capabilities of Port of Hai Phong’s workforce,” he said.

Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh -  General Director of Port of Hai Phong, highlighted that in the context of deepening global integration and rising demands for logistics service quality, human capital development—particularly foreign language proficiency and the ability to work in international environments—is a critical driver of sustainable growth. He stressed that partnering with reputable international education institutions such as RMIT University Vietnam not only enhances workforce quality but also enables the Port to access advanced training methodologies and progressively align its workforce with regional and international standards.

As the largest port operator in Northern Vietnam, Port of Hai Phong recognises its responsibility to work alongside educational institutions in career orientation and the development of young talent. The CEO expressed his expectation that, following the signing, both parties will promptly translate the agreement into practical training programmes.

Ms. Manuela Spiga, Director of Careers, Alumni and Industry Relations at RMIT Vietnam, shared: “We look forward to co-creating opportunities that provide students with practical, industry-relevant learning experiences, while enabling Port of Hai Phong to access a pipeline of high-quality young talent.” The MOU also opens up potential collaboration in research and innovation, particularly in logistics, green port development, and sustainable industrial growth.

On the same day, the RMIT Vietnam delegation visited two subsidiaries of Port of Hai Phong—Tan Vu Port and Hai Phong International Terminal (HTIT)—to gain first-hand insights into port operations, offering a comprehensive view of the Port’s capabilities and development direction.
