Article of Mr. Cao Trung Ngoan – Deputy General Director of the Port of Hai Phong
Bringing into play the strength of a regional big port and being a motive force of the port system of Vietnam, over the years, Hai Phong Port strongly finances in developing Tan Cang Container Terminal within Dinh Vu Area into a largest, most modern container terminal in the North of Vietnam, with the motto “modernization and expansion of terminal in ocean direction”. This is the first seaport in Hai Phong that features enough technical conditions to receive ship with20,000 DWT, in line with the Detailed Master plan of group of northern seaports, oriented to 2020.
Having been developed since 2005, with/covering a total area of 55 hectares, Tan Cang Container Terminal has an investment of app. VND 3,500 billion. During implementation of general planning, the leaders of Hai Phong Port Holding Limited Liability Company had adjusted, supplemented the capability of the company to meet the requirements on container handling the cargo volume growth and to achieve higher efficiency than conventional cargo handling. This is also a basis for.designing the project works and categories accordingly.
Tan Cang Container Terminal has 5 wharfs with total length of 980.6m, which are all used to handle container with the structure ensuring the berthing of 20,000 DWT full loaded and 40,000 DWT partial loaded vessel. The wharf No. 7 is specified for general goods.
At present, Tan Cang Container Terminal has the most advanced, modern facilities in the area of Dinh Vu peninsula in Hai Phong, including quayside crane, portal crane at waterside with lifting capacity of up to 40 tons, rubber tyred gantry crane, reach-stackers with lifting capacity of up to 45 tons and many other vehicles
By the year 2015, Tan Cang Container Terminal will have been invested with 32 container handling equipment, including QC portal crane at quayside, and RTG serving landside. The investment progress will be based on/driven by the market demand, capital resource, investment effect and speed of ship unloading to devise the investment suitably. Total area of container yard as planned is 32.4 hectares with design capacity of 1 billion TEUS. Warehouses occupy an Area of 7,200 m2, including 01 area of 4,800 m2 for general cargo and 01 area of 2,400 m2 for packing/stripping container Two 120 ton weighing stations are established to supply weighting service, to weigh export, import and bulk cargo. The reefer container yard is enough for 800 to 1000 reefer boxes. Nowadays, Tan Cang Container Terminal is capable to store over 11.000 Teus at the same time, meeting the requirements on serving big clients of Hai Phong Port.
Forwarding the purpose of stable and sustainable development, Tan Cang Container Terminal in Dinh Vu will be surrounded by green trees, which are located between yards and on the top of underground works within the area of technical corridor. Some sport, entertainment works are invested to serve the company’s employees after working hours. With advanced and modern facilities and infrastructure, Tan Cang Container Terminal in Dinh Vu under the Port of Hai Phong Joint Stock Company is not only an international standard container terminal but is forwarding the aim of a “Green terminal” in the near future.
Along with the government’s consideration and the central branches, ministries, Hair Phong City also makes its best to rehabilitate of the city’s channels to the design parameter. In addition, the Road No. 356 to Dinh Vu Port has been completed and put into use; Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway with direct connection to Dinh Vu Peninsula will be operational in the year 2014; a project of railway construction to connect locations within the port has been carried out. All of these make Dinh Vu – Cat Hai Economic Area attractive to many big international investors. Synchronous infrastructure will be favorable condition for Tan Cang Container Terminal to improve its service quality, to become a modern container terminal with premier attraction in the area of Dinh Vu. As planned in the strategy of expandsion and development of production in order to increase of competitive capacity, Hai Phong Port will take part in the investment for construction of a new port in the Area of Lach Huyen. Besides, the company has built and maintains the quality policy “Productivity – Quality – Safety – Efficiency” to affirm its prestige, and trademark of Hai Phong Port with domestic and international clients, so that the company becomes a big seaport with competitive strength on the market of the North of Vietnam.
