Hai Phong Port Tugboat and Transport Joint Stock Company – A subsidiary of Port of Hai Phong JSC – has successfully completed the towing project of the vessel ST 245 ESCV No.82, transferring it from Song Cam Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company to Hoang Dieu Port and subsequently towing it to the Nam Cat Ba anchorage area.
This project holds special significance for Song Cam Shipbuilding Company, as the ST 245 ESCV vessel number 82, part of a series of specialized vessels serving offshore wind power, was newly built for a Norwegian shipowner. The vessel is of considerable size, measuring 116.5 meters in length, 23 meters in breadth, and nearly 27 meters in air draft. Towing the vessel in its unfinished state, from the shipyard located deep within inland waters to an offshore area was a complex operation that required meticulous calculation and advanced technical expertise.
The greatest challenge of the project lay in the air draft limitation as the vessel had to pass under several bridges along the Cam River. This required the technical team to maximize ballasting to reduce the vessel’s height while also selecting the lowest tidal window for safe passage. In addition, the towing operation took place immediately after Typhoon No.10, when strong currents posed significant maritime safety risks.

Hai Phong Port Tugboat and Transport Joint Stock Company developed a comprehensive and safe towing plan, mobilizing its main tugboats, including Dã Tượng (3,200 HP), Thống Nhất K1 (4,600 HP), and an Azimuth tug, along with a team of highly skilled crew members. The operation was carried out with the coordination and support of the Hai Phong Maritime Administration and the Northern Maritime Pilots Company Limited, ensuring the project’s absolute safety.
The successful towing of the ST 245 ESCV vessel affirms the organizational, operational, and technical capabilities of Hai Phong Port Tugboat and Transport Joint Stock Company in the fields of towage, rescue, and maritime support services. This achievement further strengthens the company’s brand reputation, expands opportunities for cooperation in technically demanding projects, and contributes to the overall business performance while reinforcing the Port of Hai Phong’s position within the northern maritime logistics service chain.
