Port of Hai Phong – A Practical Classroom for Domestic and International Logistics Students

Over March 16–17, the Port of Hai Phong welcomed delegations of lecturers and students from British University Vietnam (BUV) and the Institute of International Economics and Business (Foreign Trade University) for study visits and on-site exploration of port operations at Tan Vu Terminal Branch.

The program aimed to provide students with exposure to the real working environment in the port and logistics sector, thereby enhancing their understanding of the role of seaports in the global supply chain and import–export cargo transportation.

As part of the program, participants were introduced to an overview of the Port’s 152-year history and development, as well as its scale, operational capacity, and organizational structure for managing and operating activities across its terminals.

The discussions focused on practical topics relevant to logistics students, including port operations and management, container handling and movement processes, the lifecycle of containers within the port area, and logistics procedures for import–export cargo. These practical insights provided students with a clearer understanding of the interconnections among stakeholders within the port logistics ecosystem.

Following the discussions, the students toured the Operations Control Center, yard areas, and container handling activities at Tan Vu Terminal Branch, observing cargo-handling equipment and operational processes in action. Through this hands-on experience, students gained deeper insight into how a modern container port operates while also bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world supply chain practices.

As the leading seaport in Northern Vietnam, the Port of Hai Phong serves as a key maritime gateway, connecting cargo from the Northern key economic region to international shipping routes. With increasingly modern terminal infrastructure and continuously improving operational capacity, the Port of Hai Phong continues to affirm its position as a major logistics hub in the region.

Through cooperation with domestic and international educational institutions, the Port of Hai Phong aims to strengthen the linkage between academia and industry, contributing to the training and development of high-quality human resources for Vietnam’s logistics and maritime economy in the future.
