Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony between Port of Hai Phong and Klaipeda Port, Lithuania

As part of the official visit to Vietnam by H.E. Gitanas Nauseda, President of the Republic of Lithuania, the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Port of Hai Phong and Klaipeda Port, Lithuania took place on the afternoon of June 12, 2025, in Hanoi. This event marks a significant milestone in the cooperative relationship between two strategic seaports of Vietnam and Lithuania.

In the presence of the President of Lithuania, Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Tran Duc Phuong, and representatives of VCCI, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh – General Director the Port of Hai Phong, and Mr. Algis Latakas – General Director of Klaipeda Port, solemnly signed the MOU on cooperation between the two ports.

At the signing ceremony, with a shared vision of promoting bilateral maritime trade and sustainable growth, the two sides exchanged information on shipping routes, port infrastructure capacity, and technical capabilities. They also proposed to coordinate visits and specialized seminars to share experiences, foster sustainable development, and boost cargo throughput. Discussions were also held on promoting services, equipment and operational capabilities for various vessel types and cargoes, with the aim of expanding the customer and partner network.

The signing of the MOU with Klaipeda Port in Lithuania – a key gateway connecting major European maritime routes – is expected to help the Port of Hai Phong expand its international shipping network, particularly transoceanic routes to Europe and North America. This cooperation is anticipated to boost import-export cargo volume between the two ports, enhace infrastructure utilization efficiency, and support the development of projects in renewable energy, digital transformation, and sustainable growth within the port and maritime sectors.

The collaboration with Klaipeda Port not only opens up opportunities for efficient maritime connectivity between Vietnam and Europe, but also paves the way for joint projects in logistics, port technology, sustainable development, and digital transformation. This is a strategic move that contributes to enhacing the competitiveness of the Port of Hai Phong amid deep international integration and globalization.
 
With the commissioning or Terminals No. 3 and 4 at the Lach Huyen area, the Port of Hai Phong continues to affirm its position as the leading seaport in Northern Vietnam. Key projects to upgrade wharves, expand navigational channels, and invest in state-of-the-art equipment – enabling the port to accommodate larger vessels – are being accelerated for completion in Q2/ 2025, in response to growing market demand. The Port of Hai Phong is undergoing a breakthrough phase of growth, driven by large-scale investments and modernization, laying a solid foundation for sustainable development. The port is on track to declare itself a Green Port by 2030 and to become a modern, intergrated international logistics hub.

The signing ceremoning of the MOU between the Port of Hai Phong and the Port of Klaipeda marks a significant milestone, ushering in a new era of cooperation to foster maritime economic development, strengthen international supply chain connectivity, and elevate the Port of Hai Phong’s position in the global seaport map. With the support of senior leaders and leading experts, both parties are committed to building a sustainable partnership founded on mutual development and shared benefits in the near future.
