The ceremony was attended by Le Anh Quan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee; Soren Toft, Chief Executive Officer of MSC; and representatives of relevant authorities, organizations, businesses, and partners.
The Pearl service follows the route Hai Phong – Shanghai – Ningbo – Busan – Long Beach – Oakland, connecting northern Vietnam with two major ports on the US West Coast: Long Beach and Oakland. With an expected average volume of approximately 6,000 TEU per week, the service expands shipping options for importers and exporters, strengthens cargo connectivity from Hai Phong to international markets, particularly the United States, and provides businesses with greater flexibility in accessing global supply chains.
The launch of the Pearl service at HTIT strengthens the terminal’s role in the international container shipping network while leveraging the potential and competitive advantages of Hai Phong’s port system within global supply chains.
The MSC SPARKLE III calls at HTIT International Terminal, marking the launch of the Pearl service and establishing a direct shipping connection between Hai Phong and the US market.
Alongside the expansion of international shipping services, HTIT International Terminal has recorded positive growth in its business and operational performance. In the first nine months of 2026, the terminal handled nearly 550,000 TEU of container cargo.
For the full year 2026, container throughput is projected to reach approximately 780,000 TEU, exceeding the target of 700,000 TEU by 80,000 TEU, or 11.4%. Compared with 250,000 TEU in 2025, the projected 2026 throughput represents an increase of 530,000 TEU, or 212%, more than 3.1 times the previous year's volume.

The launch of the Pearl service, together with growth in container throughput, helps expand the international shipping network, strengthen HTIT International Terminal’s operational capacity, and meet the growing cargo transportation needs of shipping lines and import-export businesses across northern Vietnam.
Looking ahead, HTIT International Terminal will continue to expand its service network, enhance operational quality, and develop port and logistics services to strengthen supply chain connectivity, facilitate import-export activities, and further reinforce Hai Phong’s role as an international trade gateway.
